Achieving a healthy work/life balance is not an easy feat, especially if you work from home as a Virtual Assistant. What's important to bear in mind is that we are all individuals and what works for one person may not work as well for another.
If you genuinely enjoy the work that you do for clients and have a passion and enthusiasm for the services you provide, having strict boundaries regarding a traditional 9 to 5 working week may not be for you. The key to completing your work tasks and projects should lie in intentional and thoughtful planning. This might mean structuring your workload in a less conventional way, such as setting aside some time to work during a holiday and therefore having more flexibility about when you decide to plan a trip away, or how long you go away for.
When you work remotely, you do have more freedom and autonomy in how you structure your work but do remember to communicate regularly and transparently with your clients so that they are aware of when you are contactable and have clear expectations of when you will meet deadlines and complete tasks that may be time sensitive.
If we start to view work less as a timetable of specific hours and more about the planning, organisation and execution of tasks we can look at our work and personal life in a totally different way.
It may be that you are more productive and have creative bursts of energy in the evening and working then enables you to spend time with your young children during the day. You may prefer to work some of the weekend so that you can schedule time off during the week or go away when tourist places are quieter or less expensive.
At the end of the day, it's all about structuring your work in a way that is beneficial for you and your client and that doesn't have to look like a Monday to Friday, 9 to 5 pattern. If you can work, rest and recharge when you need to, that's what matters.
