Even before the pandemic, digital nomadism existed. But with remote work still gaining in popularity, more and more European countries are offering a 'digital nomad visa' to entice workers from outside the EU. This is a smart move by European governments in order to help boost their economies.
Since Brexit, the opportunity to work and freely move around Europe has been significantly restricted for Brits, but with these visas and more European countries getting on board, things are looking up!
In a nutshell, a digital nomad visa is a temporary work permit allowing freelancers from other countries to live and work remotely for anywhere from 6 months to 2 years.
They all have different criteria, so it is important to check the individual country to see what the requirements are. Currently there are nine European countries offering this visa and three more gearing up to.
Here's a list of countries offering Digital Nomad Visas:
Croatia
Czech Republic
Estonia
Georgia
Germany
Greece

For Virtual Assistants who want to continue to work with their clients but would love to experience a different country and culture, a digital nomad visa would be the perfect solution, rather than being bound by restrictive tourist visas. These short-term visas can also lead to citizenship in some cases.
Just another example of the versatility and autonomy that comes with running a Virtual Assistant business!
